Beach Conditions

Located right in the Village of Wabamun the beach is part of the waterfront park that includes a spray park and various other family-friendly amenities such as a small playground washrooms picnic tables and a grassy area. There is a public dock beside the beach and the area is sandy with shallow waters for wading. The larger swimming beaches on Wabamun lake are at the Provincial Park in Moonlight Bay and Seba Beach. Wabamun is the Cree word for 'mirrror' or 'looking glass'. The waters of Wabamun are usually clear and water quality is relatively good. The presence of the power plants phosphorus inputs and the CN derailment and bunker oil spill in 2005 has lead to significant water quality monitoring and research by Alberta Environment and the Wabamun Watershed Management Council.
