Very strong southeasterly winds tonight shifting to westerly winds on Wednesday.
Locations: West Vancouver Island and North Vancouver Island.
Time span: Overnight tonight until Wednesday afternoon.
Hazard: Very strong southeast winds of 80 km/h gusting 100 becoming southwest or west 80 km/h gusting to 100 Wednesday morning. Over exposed coastal sections wind gusts may reach 110 km/h.
Remarks: An unseasonably strong low pressure system will make landfall on Vancouver Island tonight bringing strong southeasterly winds and precipitation to the region. As the cold front passes, winds will shift to strong and gusty westerlies or southwesterlies Wednesday morning, with gusts up to 110 km/h possible over exposed coastal locations.
Strong wind gusts will continue throughout Wednesday afternoon and early evening but will fall below warning criteria Wednesday afternoon.
Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.
