Yellow Watch - Severe Thunderstorm

Issued at Sat 9:35 AM Aug. 29
Issued by: Environment and Climate Change Canada
Description

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain.

Heavy rainfall in thunderstorms.

What: Thunderstorms could enhance local rainfall amounts.

When: Now until this afternoon.

Additional information:
An upper level low is moving across southern BC today. Showers and thunderstorms associated with this system could produce locally heavy rainfall, with rainfall rates potentially high enough to cause localized flash flooding, especially in areas with slow moving showers.

Current weather model guidance suggests that locally significant rainfall amounts are possible. However, there remains uncertainty regarding the exact location and magnitude of the heaviest rainfall, as convective showers and thunderstorms can be highly localized.

###

Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility.

Recommended Action

When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Don't drive through flooded roadways.
