Freezing Rain Warning

Issued at 10:49 Tuesday 24 January 2017

Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.

An intense low pressure system near the American seaboard will slowly approach New Brunswick today and tonight.

Freezing rain and ice pellets over southwestern areas will spread northeastward through the course of the day and night with some areas seeing a significant amount of ice accretion due to freezing rain. Freezing rain will change to rain tonight across the southern portion of the province, however freezing rain and ice pellets will persist across the north until Wednesday afternoon.

###

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.weatheraspc.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports to #NBStorm.
