Wet start to November follows snowy Halloween for parts of Ontario

Saturday, November 1, 2014, 9:39 AM - Trick-or-treaters were certainly chilly on Halloween night, and they may have been going door-to-door in snow or a rain-snow mix.

It wasn't just Friday evening either, as the snow continued through the night in several places, with snow showers moving into the Greater Toronto Area by Saturday morning, along with very chilly temperatures of 0oC or below.

"Snow fell across Sudbury all the way down to Kitchener-Waterloo yesterday, as a weak low passed through," Weather Network meteorologist Brett Soderholm said early Saturday.

Certainly not a winter storm, and as of Saturday there were no watches or warnings in place in Ontario for the snow, but it was still the first significant accumulation seen in many southern Ontario communities.

Soderholm says temperatures will be below seasonal for much of the weekend, and morning lows were already very winter-like, and well below zero in communities in the Nickel Belt and beyond.

If you're seeing flurries or snow-showers, don't expect them to stick around, however.

"It'll be clearing throughout the day today as high pressure builds in, [after] a few hours of residual mixing," Soderholm says.

It will remain clear for Sunday and Monday, becoming unsettled, but milder, by Tuesday, with Wednesday looking at seasonal temperatures.

As snow moves out of Ontario, the Maritimes and Newfoundland are preparing for an incoming nor'easter on Saturday night.

That system has sparked snowfall warnings, as has another that is set to bring snow to parts of southern Alberta, also on Saturday night.
