No one seems to know what exactly Magic Leap is promising but something must have caught Google's eye

Google invests in the future of virtual reality

Tuesday, October 28, 2014, 12:17 PM - They're being touted as the 'future of virtual reality' but no one seems to know exactly what they're promising.

Magic Leap seems to be the company making all the buzz these days. The Fort Lauderdale-based startup recently received nearly $550 million courtesy of Google, which will be used to improve their technology that allows users to see virtual 3D objects in real life.

The CEO of the company insists that what Magic Leap is offering is different than augmented reality which has become a popular feature these days.

He insists that what they are doing goes for beyond that. As a tease, the company posted a video online where a tiny elephant in someone's hands before gently floating away.

Experts are wondering if it will be something that goes on your eyes like contacts or if it will involve glasses. Will it be an apparatus that projects an image that many can see or will it be personal? No one seems to know. But the real question on everyone's mind is what does Google know that the rest of the world doesn't that would lead them to heavily invest in Magic Leap.

A possibility is that the technology could help improve Google's Google Glass. The buildup to the launch didn't match the excitement after the fact but perhaps the mysterious company can help fix that problem.

Magic Leap has no products currently on the market. Their website showcases some videos and images that tease at their capabilities but that doesn't seem to matter. Everyone is paying attention to what's next.
