Sunday, July 26, 2015, 2:52 PM - It started with a strange sight.

A Boston birdwatcher spotted a herd of 30 cows crowding around a muddy puddle in Lincolnshire, England.

With the help of his telescope, Ian Ellis spotted the cause of attraction – a seal pup trapped in mud. The five-day old seal had evidently lost its mother while swimming in a nearby creek, and ended up in the middle of Frampton Marshes.

Elis connected with wardens of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary, who aided him in moving the seal to safety.

The seal was later collected by staff from Natureland.

"Once we got the pup back to Natureland, she went straight into the Seal Hospital to begin treatment," said Richard Yeadon, one of Natureland’s directors, according to the organization’s Facebook page.

"Her main problem is that at only 5 days old, she was orphaned and therefore had not fed for a while, she had lost quite a lot of weight, and was dehydrated," the organization reports.

The seal pup was given re-hydration fluid through a stomach tube, along with high-fat herrings to help with weight gain and antibiotics to aid in her breathing condition, the sanctuary notes.

The name “Celebration” was given to the baby seal in honour of Natureland’s 50th anniversary this year.

Celebration will continue rehabilitation until she is able to feed in the water independently. Natureland says they will release her into the wild once she reaches 60-70 lbs and can survive on her own.
