I photographed this Common Tern today (May 1st) at the Long Sault Parkway. It has a tiny federal leg band. I photographed the identification number on the band and reported the number to the Bird Banding Laboratory in Maryland USA, and they confirmed the number and the bird are in their database, so they issued a “Certificate of Appreciation” which states the bird was banded in 2009 when it was too young to fly in 2009 at Buffalo, New York. This makes the bird 15 years old.
