Beach Conditions

One of Miami's oldest parks Matheson Hammock is home to an oak and magrove hammocks indicative of South Florida pre-human settlement. Mangroves are vitally important fish nurseries protect our shorelines from erosion and hurricanes and play a key component in our local ecosystems. Ride a bike down trails through the mangrove forest or in the oak hammock. A lovely park where scenes from the famous Farrelly brothers film 'Something about Mary' were shot the beach area provides soft sand and fantastic views of the Miami skyline. A favorite with families due to the man-made salt water 'pool' flushed naturally with the tidal action of adjacent Biscayne Bay Matheson is also a prime spot for Kite-Boarding canoe/kayak/stand-up paddle board launching and windsurfing. The park also has a full-service marina snack bar and restaurant built into an historic coral rock building picnic pavilions and nature trails. Matheson also contains a sailing and power boat school called Castle Harbor Sailing School. Unfortunately water quality data for this beach is not available.
