How warm has the weather been? Well, let's put it this way, I've seen days during tobacco harvest that have been colder than what we‘ve been experiencing recently. Oh by the way, for those that aren't familiar, that green building on the right is a tobacco kiln which is used to cure the crop. Approximately 90% of all tobacco produced in Canada is grown in Norfolk County and the eastern section of Elgin County, Ontario. This is known as the tobacco belt and with it's moderate climate, well educated farmers, sandy & silt-loam soils, many other high value crops are also grown here very successfully. Norfolk County, Ontario is also known as Ontario's garden, supplying everything from apples to corn, strawberries to potatoes for Ontario, Canada, the good old U.S.A and the rest of the world.
