The farm, in southern China's Hunan province, was housing around 400 pigs when the lightning struck the metal structure.
“My wife had been feeding the animals when the lightning struck, and her foot had been touching one of the railings,” said farmer Lu Qingsheng.
“She was blasted off her feet but is lucky to have survived and not end up like the pigs.”
Lu added the incident could leave him in financial disaster if his insurance claim is not approved. The damages could cost around £30,000.
There are only a few reported sighting of ball lightening and many experts dispute its existence.
The rare phenomena is said to last for only a few seconds and occurs during thunderstorms. Witnesses claim the glowing orb, which can vary in size, floats to the ground before exploding.
