Chilly! Could it hit 0C this weekend?
Thursday, August 21, 2014, 20:10 GMT -
While it is unlikely to be the coldest August night on record – that was in 1973 when Inverness-shire saw -4.3C – temperatures could get close to 0C in some rural spots in Scotland and Northern England on Saturday night.
So why is that?
With August coming to an end, the cooler nights are getting longer, and with low pressure situated to the northeast of the UK, we have been stuck in a cool northerly airstream.
A ridge of high pressure across the UK on Saturday will make the winds lighter and skies will clear – the perfect combination for temperatures to plummet overnight.
Overall, however, for the majority the weather is set fair for the weekend itself.
For the Reading and Leeds Festival it will stay mainly dry on Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, the Notting Hill carnival will be serenaded with some sunshine on Sunday but it could turn wet and windy through Monday.Follow Jamil Hussein on Google+, Twitter
