Logging on the Ottawa River

500 views Brian Beattie March 20, 2017 Bristol, QC Date shot: July 3, 2016

This is what remains of a era of logging in the Upper Ottawa Valley. Back in the 1800's when logging was king the majority of wood harvested was pine. The logging would primarily happen in the winter months and the logs would be skidded to frozen waterways. Come spring the ice would melt and huge log booms would head downstream to processing mills. Along the way these would be tied to shore via these well secured chains that were well anchored into rock.
