We had rented a car for a few days so we could go checkout the sites in Panama City. On our way back from Panama City to Playa Blanca we kind of got lost...well not kind of, we did wet lost. Anyways, to make a long story short we ended up on the poor side of Panama City...which was both sad and scarey. I didn't know this until later but roughly one-third of Panamanians still live in poverty. Despite the country's strong economic growth, poverty levels remain high in Panama. I took these photos while stuck in traffic. I tell you I wasn't prepared for what I saw. I just couldn't believe how bad it was and still is there. It left a bittersweet taste in my mouth and a whole in my heart.
