Say What?

If you said Say's Phoebe, named after naturalist Thomas Say who discovered the bird in 1819, you'd be right. But this wanderer from the Prairies is well out of range. It was discovered in Ottawa in mid-November and was still present in early December. Being a flycatcher it should at least be in the US Southwest in order to survive the winter but its urge to migrate has ceased. Fortunately it can eat spiders, fruit and berries as well.
