Great Gray Owl

653 views Nature Lover January 20, 2017 Ottawa, ON Date shot: January 20, 2017

The great gray owl is the largest owl in North America by length although other owls outweigh it such as the snowy owl. The great gray owl has a distinctive facial disc which helps it to channel sound to its ears while listening for prey such as voles. It has small piercing yellow eyes and a white collar or "bow-tie" below its beak. This owl was photographed away from Ottawa.
