Crested duck

241 views Oranus Varzgar August 8, 2014 Richmond Hill, ON Date shot: August 3, 2014

The domestic Crested Duck is a duck breed descended from the Mallard. It has its appearance because of a genetic mutation causing a deformity of the skull. This mutation causes a duck to be born with a gap in its skull, which is filled with a growth of fatty tissue. It is from this growth that the pouf of feathers sprouts.
