Boreal Owls this coming winter

12090 views Nature Lover October 25, 2024 Ottawa, Ontario, CA Date shot: March 1, 2022

This fall there have been indications of higher than usual number of boreal owls being banded at various locations in Ontario and Quebec. A decline in the red-backed vole population in the boreal forest which is cyclical in nature, is typically linked to boreal owls having to move southward in search of food. The word is this fall and winter will be a good time to see this species in our region. Photo taken several years ago.
