The Barred is the only dark-eyed owl in the East. This woodland bird is sometimes seen in our yards, keeping an eye on feeders but it is likely that it is watching for mice and voles that will pick up seed on the ground and not so much the birds. Owls hunt primarily at night or very early or very late in the day. They follow the schedule of their prey.
