Viceroy Butterflies in Sedum

902 views Nicole Watson September 26, 2017 Kingston, ON Date shot: September 15, 2017

At first glance I though they were Monarchs but once I had closer look at them I realized that they were Viceroy Butterflies. The Viceroy are smaller than the Monarch but this may be difficult to notice unless both species are present to do comparison, however a good visual difference is a black line bisecting each of the hind wings on the Viceroy that is not present on the Monarch.
