We visited the Oro African Church ahead of Emancipation Day Aug. 1 which was declared in Ontario in 2008 and by the Canadian Senate in 2018 to commemorate the abolishion of slavery in most of the British Empire in 1842. The Oro African Church is a National Canadian Historic Site. The site is located in a peaceful pastoral setting of rolling hills and farmland. The day we visited, the weather was a wonderful +27C with minimal humidity and fluffy clouds in the beautiful blue sky. It did rain briefly afterward. As we were on high ground we could see the big rain clouds quickly approaching but after the rain the the sunny day resumed.
