A stroll on a misty Saturday afternoon on January 16th, 2022 along the recently raised dike that was the location of the catastrophic rain event and subsequent failure on November 14th, 202. The dike breach flooded the Sumas Prairie where a look stood for the last 800 years until the Dutch settlers pumped it out and settled it 100 years ago. As beautiful as it is I question the wisdom of draining an ancient lake. The rain and floods will happen again.
