The Hog's Back Falls and Rapids are located on the Rideau River in Ottawa, Ontario. The building of the dam, completed in 1831, was to accommodate the natural flow of the Rideau River to prevent damage from spring flooding. The water flows through a channel that was excavated in the eastern bank of the Rideau River creating the Hog's Back Falls and Rapids that can be seen today.
