Why Balloon Flower?

342 views Jon Van Loon August 16, 2019 Swan Lake, Markham, Ontario Date shot: August 6, 2019

This picture is a close up of the blooms of a plant called Balloon Flower. The name comes not from the blooms themselves but from the light green buds before they open. The person who gave this common name to this plant must have thought these buds looked like small balloons. Do you agree? Platycodon Grandifloris is the actual botanical name.
