24500 views Earl Hartlen May 8, 2020 Port Dover, ON Date shot: May 6, 2020

A favorite food for white-tailed deer, the trillium plant is found throughout Ontario, Canada this time of year. In some areas of North America, removing trillium from the wild is considered illegal. Not so in Ontario but please be careful, if the flowers and leaves are picked, the plant can die, as it won’t have enough energy to survive through the winter. A white trillium (Trillium grandiflorum) plant can take up to a decade or more to produce its first flowers and it's been the Official flower of the Province of Ontario since 1937. In folklore, trillium symbolizes modest beauty.
