Monarch Butterfly Caterpillars

Together, You and Nature are awesome!!! Norfolk County, Ontario is directly in the pathway of the monarch butterfly migration. Thank you to all those who planted milkweed this year, the butterfly's only diet in the caterpillar stage. Milkweed contains glycoside toxins that make the butterfly poisonous to its predators. However, adult monarchs will consume the nectar of many different flowers, including milkweed. A very unique fact, the average lifespan of a monarch butterfly is only a few weeks, except for the over-wintering generation which will survive up to eight months on it's journey to Mexico and back.
