Cathedral that Was then Wasn't and then Was Again

16575 views Jon Van Loon October 18, 2020 Moscow, Russia Date shot: July 24, 2010

This is The Cathedral of Christ The Savior near Red Square and the Kremlin in Moscow. Built first in the 19th Century it was where the premiere of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture took place in 1882. It was torn down by Stalin in 1931 to be the site of the Palace of the Soviets, as the headquarters of the Soviet Government, but which was never built. Instead an exact replica of the original The Cathedral of Christ The Saviour shown here in my photo was rebuilt on the same site from 1995 to 2000.
