The cold did keep people from Bao Bao the panda cub's big debut this weekend.

The National Zoo in Washington extended its hours this weekend for the giant panda house as Bao Bao made her public debut.

Saturday was the first chance the public was able to see the five-month-old cub.

The zoo says the panda house will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Visitors are allowed into the building in small groups to avoid overcrowding.

The zoo says the amount of time Bao Bao and panda mother Mei Xiang (may-shong) will be on exhibit each day depends on their behaviour. They will have access to their private den, if they choose.
