Sunday, November 30, 2014, 6:53 PM - A sure sign that winter is here: Winnipeg's annual snow route parking ban takes effect early Monday morning.

The ban means vehicles will not be allowed to park on streets marked as designated snow routes between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. daily, starting Monday, December 1

Snow routes are a priority for snow clearing to ensure that emergency vehicles can navigate quickly and safely.

The city says vehicles caught parked in violation of the ban will receive a $100 ticket -- $50 if paid early -- and may be towed away.

The ban will remain in effect until March 1. Residents can stay updated in knowing which areas of the city crews plan to plow by visiting the Know Your Zone website.
