We need your help: How to support The Weather Network

Find Your Forecast

Thursday, October 26, 2017, 10:56 AM - We help you plan your day. We let you know what to wear and how to dress your family, or whether to apply sunscreen or pack an umbrella. We advise you on whether to leave early because of poor road conditions. And when your weather matters, we are there so you can plan and stay safe.

Now, The Weather Network needs the help of each and every Canadian to continue doing what we do best.

    Here's Why

On October 17, 2017, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) opened the much-anticipated public consultation into the licence renewal for The Weather Network – this renewal process will determine whether we keep our 9(1)(h) status and remain part of the basic cable package.

We all know how important basic carriage is to us and what we do here – this is where the help of all Canadians comes in.

We have launched a website that provides more information on our licence renewal, as well as instructions on what to include in a letter of support and how to send it to the CRTC.

    What's at stake?

If removed from the basic television service, The Weather Network would no longer be able to deliver the same level of service that they do today. Canadians would notice some of the following impacts:

    - Higher Costs!

    - Reduced access to weather and safety information

    - Reduced public alerting

    - Reduced access to regional and rural weather news

    - Reduced investment in cutting edge digital and mobile applications

Please direct this link to those that you know and encourage them to spread the word!

We know Canadians value and rely on our services every day - now we need to make sure the CRTC knows it, too!

Thanks for reading and we look forward to receiving your letters and comments.

    Now back to the weather!
