PHOTOS: Waterspout spotted over Lake Ontario

Saturday, September 29, 2018, 12:05 PM - Something wicked this way comes!

Residents of southern Ontario communities spotted something fascinating - and scary - over Lake Ontario on Friday: a waterspout.

Some residents saw the cloud formations and knew something would be coming soon.

And they were right! A small waterspout formed over Lake Ontario shortly after.

A waterspout is a non-supercell tornado that forms over bodies of water. They are often weaker than their land counterparts, but can become tornadoes if they make land contact.

Regardless, they can be just as dangerous as a tornado.

Ontario's waterspout was nothing compared to what Florida saw on Thursday, though! Check out this massive waterspout in action.

Remember: if it's safe to do so, send us your weather on Twitter using the hashtag #ShareYourWeather, or submit photos and videos on our website here!
