WATCH: Skydiver loses parachute during descent

Friday, July 1, 2016, 8:07 PM - The skydiver in the video up top is Daniel Herndon, and when it comes to jumping out of planes, he's no slouch.

So in retrospect, what happened shortly after he jumped on Tuesday above Taft Stadium in Oklahoma City probably couldn't have happened to a better prepared person.

Soon after exiting the plane and pulling the ripcord, Herndon's parachute's cords become hopelessly entangled. You can watch the whole thing in the video below, captured by his helmet GoPro.

"It came out just spinning. It was spinning in such a way I couldn’t get stable from it and had to go into emergency procedure and activate my reserve parachute," Herndon told KOCO.

That explains why his chute is plain white in video above, rather than the flashy colours of his main chute.

But, he did land safely, and this is apparently his eighth "reserve ride," which is what skydivers call it when their main chute malfunctions and they are forced to rely on the backup.

Incidentally, if you happen to be in the Oklahoma City area and spot a blue, white and green parachute and attached bag, Herndon is offering a $100 reward for their safe return.
