WATCH: Rare black kangaroo spotted in Russia

Here's something you don't hear everyday: a black kangaroo spotted in Russia. 

The kangaroo was spotted by a couple as they were driving through a forest in southeastern Russia. Initially, they thought the animal was a hare, but upon closer inspection, it was obvious that the animal was in fact a kangaroo -- an exotic animal native to Australia. 

According to local media reports, residents of the Sartov region have previously reported seeing the stray kangaroo at least twice this year. 

Officials believe the animal could have fled from a private zoo owned by a local businessman, although that is yet to be confirmed.
