Friday, January 11, 2019, 3:18 PM - Godspeed: The Vatican has announced its plans to send a track team to the Olympics.

It's composed of 60 athletes, including nuns and priests.

The Vatican launched the team Thursday after receiving the blessing of the Italian Olympic Committee, and their first scheduled race will take place in just nine days.

The team will have to qualify before being able to compete in the games.

Monsignor Melchor Jose Sanchez de Toca y Alameda, the team's president was enthusiastic about potentially competing on the world stage.

"The dream that we have often had is to see the Holy See flag among the delegations at the opening of the Olympic Games," he said, but admitted making it to the games would be a "long shot."

This isn't the first time the Vatican has entered the world of competitive sports.

It already has an unofficial soccer team as well as a cricket team that has toured the UK.
