Tuesday, November 18, 2014, 6:54 PM - The remnants of a system impacting Atlantic Canada moved through the east coast Tuesday, bringing rainfall amounts up to 60 mm and wind gusts up to 100 kilometres per hour.

Breezy conditions are expected to continue through Wednesday, with gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour expected.

"Southwesterly winds will shift into Tuesday evening, setting up the conditions for sea effect snow east of the Bay of Fundy and the western shores of Newfoundland," says Weather Network meteorologist Kelly Sonnenburg.

"Generally, there will be less than 5 cm of snow Wednesday, however, heavier bands could bring up to 20 cm of snow."

On Tuesday, rain, winter storm and wind warnings were in effect for Newfoundland and Labrador, along with snow squall watches.

"An intense low pressure system will track out over the Labrador Sea [Tuesday] night and into Wednesday," Environment Canada says in a statement.

"An extended period of blowing snow is expected over the Churchill Falls and Churchill Valley areas this as well as over the Nain area beginning [Tuesday] evening."

Untreated roadways may become slippery due to accumulating snow.

"Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions," EC warns.

ANOTHER SYSTEM ON THE WAY

Sea-effect regions aside, most of eastern Canada will see a short break from precipitation Wednesday. A new system will move in Thursday, bringing snow and some rain to the area.
