Polar Vortex return will test your mettle for ENTIRE week

Tuesday, December 26, 2017, 8:13 PM - Hope you got your fair share of holiday warmth because the Polar Vortex is back and set to challenge your limits for the final week of December with temperatures across Ontario - and the entire country - that will struggle to crack single-digit daytime highs.

Extreme cold warnings popped up across the province Boxing Day, starting in Windsor, Ont., and moving east.
Weather Highlights
- Snow squalls continue to be a concern off the shores of Lake Huron Georgian Bay
- Monitoring a potential storm Thursday into Friday morning
- GTA could pick up a trace amount to 2 cm of snow on Wednesday morning
To coincide with the bitter cold, snow squalls in the Greater Toronto Area bring the potential to produce up to 2 cm of snow across the region on Wednesday morning.
Preliminary forecasts suggest another system could move into southern Ontario Thursday overnight into Friday, which we will be monitirng closely, so please check back.
Forecast: Up to to New Years
If you haven't gathered by now, frigid weather will dominate the final week of 2017. The daytime high temperatures will struggle to reach -10C most days across the south, feeling even colder with windchill, while cottage country will see highs of -15 to -20 ºC. This will result in dangerous will chills at times. In addition, bands of lake effect snow will continue much of the time across the snow belt areas with the risk for whiteouts.

Behind the storm (regardless of track) we expect a reinforcing blast of arctic air (straight from Siberia) as we head into New Year’s Eve and New Years Day. The frigid weather will continue into the first several days of 2018, but the frigid pattern is expected to relax as head into the second week of January.
