    The center of Tropical Storm Erick spent Friday southwest of Acapulco, Mexico, 24 hours after it is formed in the Pacific.

    The storm generated sustained winds of 75 km/h early in the day Friday.

    The National Hurricane Center of the United States, Miami, warned Erick continue to gain strength and the storm could become a hurricane Saturday.

    A tropical storm warning is in effect along the southwestern coast of Mexico, Lazaro Cardenas to Manzanillo. A watch was issued from Acapulco to the east to Lazaro Cardenas and Manzanillo westward to La Fortuna.

    Erick is about 378 km southwest of Acapulco and has been moving west-northwest at 20 km/hour.

    The storm is expected along the Mexican coast, without touching the ground.

    Up to 130 mm of rain is forecast in the hardest hit places with possible isolated maximum amounts of 200 mm.

    These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.
