Tropical Storm Dorian formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, making it the fourth named storm of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season, the U.S. National Hurricane Center says.
The disturbance was first designated as tropical depression four (TD4) early Wednesday morning and continued to quickly strengthen off the coast of west Africa.
There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in place.
Forecasters say the storm will remain over open waters through the weekend before possibly approaching the Leeward Islands late Sunday or early Monday.
Some slight strengthening is possible Wednesday followed by gradual weakening on Thursday as it moves over cooler water.
