Carp swim among the residents on flooded Toronto Islands
Digital News Reporter
Tuesday, May 16, 2017, 5:58 PM - It'll be a delayed start to summer for the Toronto Islands after abnormally high lake waters levels and significant rainfall led to spring flooding — and carp swimming on the local baseball diamonds.
In a statement issued this week, the City of Toronto said that Lake Ontario water levels are expected to rise for several more weeks, despite a lack of rainfall.
With all island beaches still under water, the release says beaches will stay closed "until further notice." All event permits for Toronto Island Park up to June 30 have been cancelled, and Centreville is set to stay closed until then, too.
The city has agreed to work with permit holders to accommodate rescheduling or relocation of event permits.

"Residents are advised to stay away from Toronto Island Park, as many of the amenities, such as parks, trails, beaches and business are closed due to flooding," the statement reads, with regard to ferry services that will remain suspended.
Billy Bishop Airport will operate as per usual, and the Victoria Day fireworks at Ashbridge's Bay will resume as planned; however, rather than from the beach, the fireworks will be set off from a barge stationed in the water.
