Wednesday, August 23, 2017, 1:13 PM - Severe storms slammed into Quebec and eastern Ontario Tuesday, leaving tens of thousands of power outages and a trail of damage.
Quebec was particularly hard-hit, and on Wednesday, Environment Canada confirmed a tornado touched down near Lachute, and rated the twister EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, marked by winds of up to 175 km/h.
"Homes were damaged, a roof was even [completely] torn off. A number of trees were also uprooted or broken, and porches and fences were damaged," the agency said in a statement.

Elsewhere in Quebec, the storms brought localized wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h, as well as hail and downpours. In Montreal, a microburst flattened several trees in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce area.
Severe storms also lashed eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, with tornado watches in effect for most of the day, though no tornadoes have been confirmed in that province.
