They’re featured in poems, "I wandered lonely as a cloud" -- that’s William Wordsworth -- and in songs, "Get off of my cloud" -- that's the Rolling Stones.
There are almost as many definitions for them as there are artistic representations.
Let’s see, there’s cumulus, stratus, strato-cumulus, alto-stratus, cumulonimbus ... and you can’t forget lenticular, mammatus, pileus ... you get the idea.
While each individual cloud is unique we all share the experience of watching them: Contemplating their beauty and complexity, and the weather they might bring.
This week's time lapse travels to Hawaii with Filmmaker Gavin Heffernan.
Make sure you look at our full time lapse gallery, and visit our website every Tuesday for the newest time lapse video.
NYC: If you love New York City, you won't want to miss next week's time lapse. We'll be travelling to the Big Apple with Cameron Michael.
Behind the scenes, Digital Editor Cheryl Santa Maria is coordinating a new time lapse installment that will take us to London, England. Stay tuned for that in the weeks to come.
