The first day of fall will be a stormy one for parts of BC

British Columbia will welcome the autumnal equinox with a stormy punch on Sunday.

Heavy rains and strong wind gusts will be experienced throughout the Southwest Coast of BC Saturday night through Sunday.

This is a pretty typical fall low pressure system but seeing that it is only really the second of its kind for the season thus far (the first was earlier this week).

Vancouver is expecting heavy rains which will start early Sunday morning and continue through the day. They could see 30 to 40 mm today alone with additional rain on Monday and even Tuesday.

There are currently wind warnings in effect for the Sunshine Coast and East Vancouver Island for sustained winds of 60 to 80 km/h developing Sunday morning.

On the South Coast, winds will not be that strong, however they may still be sustained at 40 km/h gusting to 70 km/h in the late morning and early afternoon hours Sunday -- once again, typical for them, but ironic that it moves in for the first day of the season!
