The countdown begins: 100 days until Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics
Wednesday, October 30, 2013, 9:50 AM -
Wednesday marks 100 days until the opening ceremony of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics in southern Russia.
The Olympic flame was lit in late September and reached the North Pole as part of the torch relay last Friday.
"Eleven torchbearers - who have made great contributions to the study of the Arctic and the preservation of its natural resources, wildlife, and the environment - accompanied the expedition," officials said on the Sochi 2014 website.
The torch arrived in the historic city of Kaliningrad on Tuesday, with a giant "100 days to go" sign inflated at the end of day celebrations, officials say.
The torch relay will end at the Sochi 2014 Opening Ceremony on February 7 after travelling nearly 65,000 km around Russia.
TEAM CANADA GEARS UP FOR SOCHI
On Wednesday, the Hudson's Bay company will unveil the Canadian Olympic team's uniforms, sparking excitement for the country's presence at the 2014 Winter Games.
Canada picked up 26 medals at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, with 14 of them being gold-- the most of any country at a Winter Olympics.
Infostrada, a Netherlands sports data consulting company, predicts Canada will win 34 medals at Sochi, with 11 golds.
Much like Vancouver, all eyes are on the weather forecast, with concerns of a warm winter and not enough snow in Sochi.
