Maritimes face drastic drop in temperatures

Tuesday, November 24, 2015, 9:04 AM - A powerful system that pushed through the Maritimes on Monday brought snow and flooding rains to some areas.

Since Saturday, up to 94 mm of rain was recorded in the hardest hit places, with Moncton, New Brunswick seeing as much as 80 mm from the storm.

The heavy downpour resulted in localized flooding in the city and prompted a road closure in Moncton on Monday.

Snow associated with the system also prompted school closures in eastern and northern New Brunswick Monday morning.

At the height of the storm NB Power reported over 4,500 customers without power.

FALLING TEMPERATURES

Conditions will continue to improve through the day on Tuesday, but temperatures will feel much colder than normal in several places.

"As the cold front continued to sweep through the region overnight, temperatures drastically dropped behind it," says Weather Network meteorologist Brett Soderholm.

That's after some communities enjoyed record breaking highs on Monday, with some places seeing temperatures near 20°C.

Milder air will return to the region once again Friday, with temperatures gradually warming up again to well above seasonal by Saturday.
