Summer is no joke: 10 photos of major storm damage

Friday, July 22, 2016, 4:05 PM - Some of Canada's biggest storms and most damaging weather patterns have happened during the summer -- from the massive storms that brought floods to southern Alberta in 2013, to the hot and dry conditions that helped facilitate the terrifying Fort McMurray fires in the same province in May.
Both of those events caused significant damage -- but it isn't just the big, headline-grabbing storms that can can be detrimental.
Every severe storm is capable of producing a tornado and even if it doesn't, strong winds, torrential rain, hail and floods can wreak havoc on a neighbourhood in a matter of minutes.

Cloud-to-ground lightning can carry up to 1 billion volts of electricity. That's more than enough to strip the bark off an unfortunate tree, as exemplified here.
