It's shaping up to be a stormy night for parts of central Alberta.

It's not widespread, but some storms have sparked a handful of severe thunderstorm warnings south of Edmonton.

"Most of the risk with this will be strong wind gusts and small to moderate-sized hail," Weather Network meteorologist Matt Grinter said, adding heavy, but localized, downpours are also possible.

Storms in between Edmonton and Calgary have the potential to be isolated severe this evening, but a wide swath of the central Prairies could see some kind of thunderstorms, although none are expected to be too severe.

On Thursday, the risk for non-severe storms shifts south of Calgary in Alberta, and further east.

If severe storms do pop up, the biggest area of risk will be along with the border between Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
