Friday, March 31, 2017, 9:07 AM - After a temperature roller coaster, the month of March will finish on a wintry note for eastern Ontario and southern Quebec.

A system that is delivering rain to much of southern Ontario is likely to manifest as periods of snow for Ottawa, Montreal and surrounding communities. As a result, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the region.

"Snow will begin early this [Friday] morning and end early Saturday morning," says the weather agency in the statement for Ottawa. "Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 centimetres are likely in many areas. There may be some regions which receive somewhat higher amounts in the range of 10 to 15 cm."

This system will bring wet snow to southern Quebec through the day. However, as temperatures hover near or slightly below the freezing mark Friday night, the snow will begin to accumulate in Montreal and surrounding areas, adds Environment Canada.

By Saturday, the snow in southern Quebec will switch over to just rain, thanks to temperatures a few degrees above zero.

Eastern Ontario, meanwhile, will see some light flurries or a rain/snow mix on Saturday morning, but the province as a whole is likely to be mostly quiet, though cloudy.
