Thursday, December 6, 2018, 6:09 PM - A cold front accompanied by snow chilled northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, east China's Shandong Province and northwest China's Gansu Province, sending temperatures down to minus 30 degrees Celsius in some regions on Wednesday.

The mixture of extreme cold temperatures and snow made for a breathtaking snow scenery but also disrupted local traffic.

As the temperature in Heilongjiang Province dropped to minus 30 degrees Celsius, tourists flocked to the scenic Kurbin area to witness the beauty of the stunning rime scenery along the Kurbin river banks.

Snow started to fall on Wednesday morning at about 03:00 in Tai'an City in Shandong Province wrapping the sacred Mount Tai and turning it into a place of tranquility and peacefulness.

According to Mount Tai's administration council, it has snowed intermittently for more than ten hours, and the mountain has accumulated snow up to five or six centimeters deep with the temperature dropping to minus 2 degrees Celsius.

In Dunhuang City, Gansu Province, the world cultural heritage Mogao Caves look stunning, quiet and serene coated in snow.

The Mogao Caves, with history of thousands of years, was dressed into a pure white quilt as snow covered the broken grottoes on the cliff, creating a wonderland. The landmark architecture Nine-story Temple looks more solemn in snow, attracting tourists to stop and enjoy the gorgeous scenery.

Snow started at 11:00 in Jingtai County, Baiyin City in Gansu Province Wednesday morning and at 13:30 started to fall harder. As the snow froze on the road, traffic in the Jingtai section of Gansu provincial highway's 308 line was severely affected. As of 20:00 on Wednesday, there was a backlog of about 100 vehicles.

The 308 line of Gansu provincial highway is the main provincial road connecting Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Gansu Province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as well as the traffic artery of some places in Hexi region of Gansu Province. The local traffic police departments persuade some vehicles to return or to temporarily rest and wait in the safe area, while conducting anti-skidding and snow removal works with the highway maintenance department, in order to resume the road traffic as soon as possible.
