The same system bringing heavy snow to Ontario on Wednesday will continue to push east impacting parts of Quebec and Atlantic Canada through the day. 

"A storm system from the United States will makes its up way the Appalachians bringing snow to southern Ontario and southern Quebec, heavy snow to New Brunswick, PEI and western Newfoundland and snow and freezing rain to Nova Scotia," says Weather Network meteorologist Dayna Vettese.

Blowing snow and winter storm warnings cover parts of the province, including the city of Montreal, where upwards of 10 cm of snow is expected.

"The snow moves in to Montreal and the Eastern Townships Wednesday afternoon and the Gaspe Peninsula late Wednesday night," adds Vettese.

"Snowfall amounts ranging from 30 to 40 cm are expected along the Appalachians, while over the upper St. Lawrence, between 15 and 20 cm is expected," adds Environment Canada in the statement. "Snowfall amounts ranging from 15 to 20 cm are also expected over the Gaspe Peninsula overnight Wednesday."

The snow will be accompanied by strong northeast winds, causing widespread blowing snow.

As a result, motorists are urged to adjust travel plans accordingly and check road conditions before heading out.
