Tuesday, August 2, 2016, 4:06 PM - Hawaii's Kilauea volcano has been in the headlines a lot the past few years, after an eruption inflicted widespread damage on the Big Island in 2014 and then again late last month, when lava from the giant crater spilled into the Pacific Ocean for the first time since 2013.

While volcano's enormous eruptions have always been photogenic, Kilauea recently decided to show off a friendlier side, with cameras spotting a smiley face inside the crater during an eruption.

The footage was captured by Mick Kalber of the tour company Paradise Helicopters.

Kilauea has been continuously erupting since 1983, making it one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The most current eruption doesn't appear to be threatening any homes, but tourists are being told to keep a safe distance.

Still, that hasn't stopped crowds from showing up and taking pictures of the lava flow.
